Sunset view of the dunescape and bunkers protecting the right side of the green of the par 4 13th hole of the Pacific Dunes Course of the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Bandon, Oregon. This hole demonstrates the artistry and sensitivity of the architect in letting the natural existing landforms dictate features of the hole. The blues of the Pacific Ocean and horizon clouds beyond the green and fairway make the warm colors of the bunkers that much more vivid. Many consider this to be the “signature” hole of the course but the architect would rather not use labels. This is this photographer’s 2nd favorite hole on the course to photograph. The course has been ranked at the very top of the U.S. public course rankings since its opening in 2001. Architect, Tom Doak, Renaissance Design.
